Ricky Martin is GAY? Wow, Who Knew?!?

I have some seriously mixed feelings about Ricky Martin coming out. It's great that he finally felt safe enough to come out. In many ways it must have been difficult to try to keep his private life from the public, though I have to admit he did so quite well. On the other hand, at the height of his fame, he could have done a lot of good for the gay and lesbian social justice movement if he had come out then.

Rosie O'Donnell made me incredibly angry when she did not support Ellen Degeneres when Ellen first came out. I remember Rosie was still doing the "I'm in love with Tom Cruise" bullshit on her show, at the same time that Ellen was putting her own ass directly into a sling by coming out on TV. Rosie never once said a word about it. It was as if it wasn't happening. Then how many years later she comes out of the closet and we're all supposed to kiss her ass. Hmmm...don't know that I can do that.

Ricky Martin always seemed gay, acted gay, and has been gay. Anyone who couldn't figure that out was blind as Helen Keller. However, we do have to go by what people tell us, and it isn't nice to assume the scope of a person's life unless they tell you who they are. So, we just had to wait for Mr. Martin to get up to speed with his own gayness.

Congratulations to Mr. Martin for finally figuring out that it's easier to just be who you are.

If every gay person in the U.S. just came out, I assure you that there would be many many surprised individuals throughout the World, because there are more of us than you can imagine.
